| Director General FAO Studied the Extension of Hybrid Millet |

On 1st June 2009, Dr Jacques Diouf, Director-General Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) visited Zhangjiakou city, Hebei Province and made a study on the plantation and extension of hybrid millet, a new variety of millet researched and cultivated by Zhangjiakou Academy of Agricultural Science.
Dr Jacques Diouf was very interested in this crop because of its high yield and it has significance for the world food security problem. In the mean time, Dr Jacques Diouf said that he would offer support to the extension of hybrid millet in Ethiopia.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ethiopia has tested the hybrid millet in 2008 and got good result. The successful extension of hybrid millet in Ethiopia will help to tackle with the local food security problem.
