Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Saturday the country's economic development benefits from its closer cooperation with China. During his talks with visiting Chinese Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai, Meles said the two sides have enjoyed stronger cooperation at all levels.
The cooperation with China greatly benefits Ethiopia, he said, hoping such cooperation would be strengthened. Meles said Ethiopia has achieved great achievements in areas like poverty reduction and added that China has played a pivotal role in help the country alleviate poverty. "These are truly facts," he said.
China's official development assistance (ODA) to Ethiopia is practical and effective, said Meles. China's know-how in agro-tech becomes a strong driving force for boosting Ethiopia's economic development, he said. Ethiopia values the development of good ties with China and has "a special feeling for the development of Ethio-China relations," said Meles.
For his part, Sun said agricultural cooperation was one aspect of the eight steps to offer major assistance to Africa, announced by Chinese President Hu Jintao at last November's China-Africa summit.
China and Ethiopia have always maintained very good cooperation in the area of agriculture and encouraging results have been achieved in this area, said the Chinese agricultural minister.
China has launched efforts to establish 10 agricultural technology demonstration centers in Africa, he said and added that Ethiopia is among the 10 countries where the centers would be established.
Sun and his entourage arrived here Friday for a three-day working visit.
